El cristal violeta es la sal monocloruro del catión cristal violeta. Se presenta como polvo verde oscuro o como fragmentos verdosos y relucientes con brillo metálico. Se utiliza como colorante para madera, seda y papel, en tintas y como colorante biológico. También se utiliza para fabricar tintas para sellos y hectográficas.
