Methylsalicylaat is een benzoaatester, de methylester van salicylzuur. Het is een kleurloze, gelige of roodachtige vloeistof met de geur van wintergroen. Het wordt gebruikt als oplosmiddel in poetsmiddelen en inkten, als kleurstofdrager en als UV-lichtstabilisator in acrylharsen. Cosmetisch gebruik is onderworpen aan de voor het ingrediënt geldende cosmeticavoorwaarden.
