Safrole (CAS 94-59-7; C10H10O2) is a naturally occurring phenylpropene found in sassafras, camphor, nutmeg, cinnamon and related essential oils. It is used mainly as a chemical intermediate, including in the manufacture of piperonal and piperonyl butoxide.
