1,3-Butylene glycol is a four-carbon diol with hydroxyl groups at positions 1 and 3. It is also used as a solvent for food flavourings and as an intermediate for polyester plasticisers and resins. The material is a clear, colourless, viscous liquid. Recorded grades are cosmetic, pharma and industrial. Packaging formats include 20 kg plastic drums, 200 kg steel drums and 1000 kg IBCs. Food use is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
