Decabromodiphenyl ethane, abbreviated to DBDPE, is a brominated aromatic additive used as a flame retardant. Its applications include polyolefins, styrenic polymers, engineering thermoplastics and textile back-coatings. Other uses include electrical and electronic equipment, adhesives, sealants and rubber materials. It is also used in polyester and vinyl ester resins. The compound has a high bromine content, described as approximately 82%, and takes the form of a white to cream powder.
