Natriumlaurethsulfaat verschijnt als een witte tot lichtgele pasta of heldere vloeistof. Natriumlaurethsulfaat, gewoonlijk afgekort SLES, is een anionische oppervlakteactieve stof. Het wordt gebruikt in shampoos, lichaamswasproducten en huishoudelijke schoonmaakmiddelen. Het zorgt voor schuimvorming, waskracht en emulgering. Andere reinigingstoepassingen zijn onder meer bubbelbaden, zeep en tandpasta. Cosmetisch gebruik is onderworpen aan de voor het ingrediënt geldende cosmeticavoorwaarden.
