2-Pyrrolidone (pyrrolidin-2-one) is the simplest member of the class of pyrrolidin-2-ones. It is a colourless to yellowish liquid with a weak odour; in purified form it can be a low-melting solid. It is used as an intermediate in the manufacture of polyvinylpyrrolidone, N-vinyl-2-pyrrolidone and nylon 4 fibres, as a high-boiling solvent and as a monomer for copolymers with vinyl compounds.
