Azodicarbonamide is a chemical blowing agent used in the manufacture of plastics and rubbers. Its applications include synthetic and natural rubbers, ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymers and PVC compounds. It also serves as a foaming agent for thermoplastic urethane elastomers, polyolefin resins, acrylic polymers and polyethylene. Other applications include artificial leather, acetal polymers, acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene resins and high-impact polystyrene sheeting. Its function in these materials is to increase porosity.
