Borax, also known as sodium tetraborate, is a boron compound that dissolves in water. It acts as a buffering agent, flux and cross-linker in industrial formulations. Its applications include glass manufacturing, glazes, enamels, soldering fluxes, adhesives and detergents. Other documented uses include cleaning compounds and photographic processing. The mineral is also known as sodium tetraborate decahydrate. It forms white crystalline powder or granules.
