Butyl oleate is the fatty acid ester formed from butan-1-ol and oleic acid. It is used as a plasticiser, particularly for PVC, and as a solvent, lubricant and water-resisting agent in coatings and polishes. It also serves as a softener for natural and synthetic rubbers.
