Formic acid is a simple carboxylic acid used in aqueous solution. It serves as an acidulant, reducing agent and antibacterial in leather tanning and textile dyeing. Other uses include acid cleaning and descaling. It is also an intermediate in chemical synthesis. The material is a clear, colourless liquid with a pungent odour. Recorded packaging formats include 35 kg plastic jerrycans, 250 kg plastic drums, 1200 kg IBC and ISO tanks. Use in biocidal products depends on the applicable product authorisation.
