Methyl salicylate is a benzoate ester, the methyl ester of salicylic acid. It is a colourless, yellowish or reddish liquid with the odour of wintergreen. It is used as a solvent in polishes and inks, as a dye carrier and as a UV light stabiliser in acrylic resins. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions.
