n-Hexane is a chemical made from crude oil. It is a clear, colourless, very volatile liquid with a petroleum-like odour. It is insoluble in water. It is used as a solvent, especially in the adhesive and shoe industries and in furniture manufacture to dissolve glue, and as a cleaning agent (degreaser) in the printing industry.
