Salicylaldehyde is a hydroxybenzaldehyde carrying a hydroxy substituent at position 2. It is a colourless or pale yellow liquid with a bitter almond odour. It is used as a reagent and to make coumarin and chelates. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions.
