Shellac appears as amber to pale yellow flakes or granules. Shellac is a natural resin secreted by the lac insect. It is refined into wax-containing or dewaxed forms and used as a food glazing agent, pharmaceutical coating and wood finish. Packaging options include 25 kg bags, 25 kg cartons and 200 kg fibre drums. Food use as E 904 is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
