Bronopol, or 2-bromo-2-nitropropane-1,3-diol, is an antimicrobial compound. It serves as a preservative and antiseptic in cosmetics, shampoos and topical medications. Other applications include preservation in paints, textiles, industrial fluids, cooling towers and water-treatment systems. It is also used in humidifiers and hide processing. Recorded grades are cosmetic and technical. Packaging formats include 25 kg fibre drums, 500 kg big bags and bulk. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions. Use in biocidal products depends on the applicable product authorisation. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
