Butyric acid is a short-chain carboxylic acid with an intense, characteristic odour. It serves as an intermediate in pharmaceutical and agrochemical manufacturing. It is also used to make esters for flavours and fragrances and as a flavouring agent. Further applications include deliming hides in leather tanning. Recorded grades are natural, FCC, pharma and food. Packaging formats include 200 kg steel drums, 1000 kg IBCs and bulk. Food use is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
