Dibutyl phthalate, or DBP, is a phthalate ester used as a plasticiser. It is a diester of phthalic acid and butan-1-ol. It has been used in adhesives, printing inks, paints and plastics, where its plasticising role is to make polymer materials softer and more flexible. Other uses include solvent-aid applications and use as a non-reactive solvent in epoxy resins. Its solvent applications also extend to oils and textile processing.
