Japan wax is a pale-yellow vegetable tallow obtained from the fruit mesocarp of oriental sumac. Consisting mainly of palmitic-acid glycerides, it imparts toughness and acts as a texturiser and binder in cosmetics, food packaging and coatings. It is a pale yellow to cream waxy solid. Recorded grades include natural, refined, cosmetic, food, crude. Packaging formats include 25 kg bag, 200 kg fibre drum. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions.
