Bis(2-ethylhexyl) phthalate, commonly abbreviated to DEHP, is a phthalate ester used as a plasticiser in PVC and other polymers. Applications include wire and cable sheathing, flooring and upholstery materials. It is also used as a hydraulic fluid and as a dielectric fluid in electrical capacitors. Chemically, it is a diester of benzene-1,2-dicarboxylic acid. The compound is a colourless to pale-yellow oily liquid.
