Anisole, also called methoxybenzene, is an aromatic ether. It is used as a specialty solvent and as an intermediate for fragrances, pharmaceuticals and other organic compounds. It also serves as a heat-transfer medium, fragrance ingredient and flavouring agent. The material is a clear, colourless to straw-coloured liquid with an aromatic odour. Recorded grades are industrial, fragrance and pharma. Packaging formats include 200 kg steel drums, 1000 kg IBCs and bulk. Food use is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
