Erythrosine is a xanthene-based synthetic red dye, also known as E127 or FD&C Red 3. It is used to colour confectionery, bakery decorations, cocktail cherries and pharmaceutical tablets. The dye produces a bright bluish-pink shade. Recorded packaging formats include 25 kg fibre drums and 500 kg big bags. Food use as E 127 is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions. Pharmaceutical use requires the applicable pharmacopoeia grade.
