Sucrose acetate isobutyrate, or SAIB, is a sucrose ester. It acts as a density-modifying agent and stabiliser in flavoured beverages, where it is identified as E444. It is also used as a plasticiser in coatings, inks and cosmetics, and as a lacquer modifier. The material is a pale-yellow to amber viscous liquid. The catalogue lists food, cosmetic and industrial grades in 200 kg steel drums, 1000 kg IBCs and ISO tanks. Food use as E 444 is subject to the applicable food-additive specification and permitted-use conditions. Cosmetic use is subject to the applicable cosmetic-ingredient conditions.
